Description: "This building, prior to the Civil War, was a Baptist seminary known as Chesapeake Female Seminary. When taken by the Federal Army, it was used as a hospital for officers. Immediately after the
war, Gen. B. F. Butler

purchased it and the acreage surrounding and sold it to the Government; it formed the nucleus of the present home."
