Colonial American history at Richneck plantationMarker ID: Local Title: Richneck Plantation Location: Newport News VA Description: "In 1667 Miles Cary Jr.  inherited land lying between the forks of Stoney Run which he named Richneck. The plantation was home to four generations of Carys and stood until 1865. Charter Elm, commemorated on the Newport News City seal, grew at Richneck and was, by tradition, the site of the first Warwick County court which continued to hold sessions there until 1793. Several members of the Cary family are buried under the ancient elm."   BACK
