"United States Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Va."

Description: "One of the most important naval health centers. Situated on the Elizabeth River and devoted to the treatment of sick and wounded sailors and marines. Was the site of Fort Nelson of 1812 fame. Located in the corner of the grounds is cemetery where Confederate, union and sailors of other countries sleep side by side. Upon some of the tombstones are found names of the earliest ships of the United States
