St. Paul's is still in use today. When Lord Dunmore, the last British governor of Virginia, bombarded Norfolk January 1, 1776, a cannonball became lodged in the wall of St. Paul's. Notice the white circle on the wall. "Old Church" was the only building standing after the relentless shelling by the British Admiral and the last Royal governor of Virginia.
